The national awards celebration for Scotland’s vibrant gin industry will be hosted as a virtual event this year as plans are now being finalised for a broadcast quality, live digital experience.
The 4th annual Scottish Gin Awards has reported a record-high volume of entries in this year’s competition and working with sponsors, Schweppes, Vetroelite, Rankin Brothers, Global Brands and Halewood, organisers have promised a night of celebration which will continue to place Scottish Gin firmly on the global map once more.
The digital event, hosted by comedian Des Clarke, will be a private ticketed event for the gin industry and will be broadcast on Thursday 12 November at 630pm.
Kirsten Speirs, Director of KDMedia and founder of The Scottish Gin Awards commented;
“We’re excited to be adding this digital event to our Scottish Gin Awards programme and it is something we will certainly build in to our schedules on a permanent basis. It is an opportunity to extend our reach beyond the live experience and bring in others from across the UK and worldwide to join in our celebrations. Naturally, we are disappointed not to see everyone live this year, but we are encouraged by the positive support of finalists and sponsors to get involved.”
Last week, judging the awards completed after 25 gin experts from across the UK participated in live tastings on Zoom, moderated by global sensory experts, Cara Technology. Samples of 296 Scottish gins had been carefully decanted and dispatched to the homes of the judging panel and were arranged into a series of sessions. Marks are now being analysed and the finalists will be announced shortly.
The chair of the Scottish Gin Awards judging panel, Adam Hardie, commented,
“The Scottish gin industry has made a massive contribution to the UK drinks industry and continues to lead in diversity, innovation and creativity. We have watched Scottish businesses work very hard through a very difficult year to stay relevant, engaged with customers and turn their hand to new skills. This enterprising spirit has really shone through in the competition this year and there is no doubt that Scottish gin continues to make a positive impact on gin drinkers worldwide.”
